Beginning with V5R2, the iSeries supports a new set of catalog views and tables for ODBC and JDBC clients in the SYSIBM library. These database catalogs, which are supported by the entire DB2 UDB family, will make it much easier for ODBC- and JDBC-based tool vendors to support the DB2 UDB family. These new catalog views and tables are created in SYSIBM for compatibility with the other DB2 UDB products. The catalog views and tables found in QSYS2 will continue to be supported.

PTFs are now available to make these catalogs available on V4R5 and V5R1 systems as well. The V4R5 and V5R1 PTF information is as follows (the new SYSIBM library is part of the V5R2 GA code):

V4R5 : 5769SS1 SF67478
V5R1 : 5722SS1 SI04582

iSeries customers who want to use DB2 UDB Version 8.1 clients (e.g., DB2
Connect) to access iSeries databases must apply these PTFs to their systems
in order for these clients to work. This is because the latest version of DB2 UDB clients depends on this new set of database catalogs that are common across the DB2 UDB family:

SQLTables
SQLSchemas
SQLTableTypes
SQLColumns
SQLPrimaryKeys
SQLForeignKeys
SQLSpecialColumns
SQLStatistics
SQLTablePrivileges
SQLColPrivileges
SQLProcedures
SQLProcedureCols
SQLUDTs
SYSTableTypes
SYSDummy1
SQLTypeInfo
