Configuration flexibility and virtualization options are enhanced.

 

New I/O enhancements are available for Power Systems servers:

  • Expanded number of SAS drives supported on the 4-core Power S814 server
  • Additional configuration flexibility on scale-out servers
  • NIM function for cost-effective 10 Gb Ethernet adapters, announced previously with IBM POWER8 scale-out servers
  • PCIe 4-port Ethernet adapter with long reach (LR) 10 Gb ports for long-distance fiber cabling
  • PCIe 2-port Async adapter for scale-out servers, which improve communication price/performance
  • Support on scale-out servers of 11 additional PCIe adapters currently supported on IBM POWER7/POWER7+ servers, which improves configuration flexibility and ease-of-migration and POWER7/POWER8 coexistence
  • Additional levels of AIX and VIOS to support scale-out POWER8 servers
