IBM Leads in Worldwide Server Revenue Share for Third Quarter

Gartner has reported that IBM held its number one position as the leading vendor in worldwide server revenue. According to Gartner data, IBM captured 30.3 percent of all server revenue worldwide in the third quarter of 2008.1

For the third quarter of 2008, Gartner reported the following:

•      IBM's server leadership was driven by Power Systems and System z.

•      Power Systems (including earlier System p models) captured 33 percent revenue share of Gartner's Unix servers category.

•      All IBM brands in Gartner's over $250,000 server category combined to capture 57.7 percent revenue share; System z captured 33 percent revenue share in the category.

•      IBM reigned in 44.9 percent revenue share for servers priced at $10,000 or more.

IBM demonstrated industry leadership across the Americas and Asia Pacific (including Japan), garnering 32.8 percent, and 30.2 percent revenue share respectively in the geographies according to Gartner.
