Monthly Backup Procedures

Before you do a monthly backup, it's a good idea to do a Reclaim Storage (RCLSTG) first. This is because the AS/400 backup commands will back up damaged objects, but the restore commands will not restore them. If you run RCLSTG before doing a monthly backup, the command will clean up your libraries before committing them to tape. Although it's not a guarantee, this may make it easier to restore those libraries and objects later on.
